Abstract
Summary A series of 693 patients was studied to determine the effect of pubic shaving on the incidence of infection in perineal wounds. A total of 228 patients had a complete shave; in 240 only the perineum was shaved and 225 were left unshaved. Shaving did not affect the incidence of infection and was associated with burning discomfort and itching in a high percentage of patients. Most patients disliked shaving and we can present no evidence to support its continued use. Keywords
