The Common Duct After Cholecystectomy

Abstract
The size of the common duct was measured by cholecystography in 60 patients at intervals up to at least five years after cholecystectomy. There was significant dilatation to greater than 10 mm in 11 instances during this time. There appeared to be an increased incidence in biliary symptoms in these patients compared with the other 49. In none were the symptoms sufficient to warrant further operation. A patient with a dilated duct or a duct increasing in size without stricture or filling defect does not require reoperation unless there are severe biliary symptoms.
