Abstract
The sequence of events, findings and treatment of 3 patients who developed spontaneous subdural hematomas while on anticoagulation therapy are reported. The prothrombin time of 2 of the patients was considerably abnormal (54 to 71); the other maintained an approximately 2:1 relationship with the normal. The need for consideration of subdural hematoma as a complication of Dicumarol treatment is emphasized whenever mental and neurologic signs develop. Although there was no history or evidence of head injury in these patients, "trivial" or "minor" head trauma during anticoagulant therapy cannot be fully eliminated as a possible initiating factor. Keywords
