Ethical Experimentation and the Editor

Abstract
Should a journal editor accept for publication manuscripts describing important conclusions from experiments on human subjects that seem to him to have been conducted unethically? The experiments cannot be undone, and the results may be valuable. On the other hand, publication in a reputable journal automatically implies that the editor and his reviewers condone the experimentation. The editor may decide to wash his hands of the problem, publish the work if it is scientifically valid, and let the scientific community judge the ethical aspects.
