Abstract
The static electric quadrupole moments of the ground and first excited states of nuclei in the shell are calculated from shell-model wave functions. The relative values of experimentally known moments of ground states are well reproduced by the calculations as are the relative values of the measured moments of first excited states. However, the absolute experimental values of the ground-state and exicted-state moments cannot be reproduced simultaneously with a single choice of effective charge.
