Abstract
During the past century the population of Egypt has increased from about 4 to 16 million persons. Life tables for the yrs. 1927-37 computed by the "census differencing" method indicate an expectancy at birth of 30.2 yrs. for [male][male] and 31.5 for [female][female]. Although there is a high mortality rate there is also a high fertility rate which, if continued at the 1937 level, would result in an increase of about 44% per generation. With limited room for expansion the country faces mounting population pressures as does the entire vast Mohammedan world.
