Abstract
A general survey of the public health problems found in Brazil indicates the important part played by such diseases as yellow fever (especially the jungle type), tuberculosis, malaria, kala-azar and espundia (leishmaniasis), Chagas disease, various mycoses, hookworm, ascariasis, trichuriasis, schistosomiasis, filariasis, smallpox, typhus, spirochaetoses (syphilis, yaws, pinta), leprosy, typhoid, paratyphoid A and B, dysentery (bacil-lary and amoebic), and animal venoms (snakes, scorpions, spiders, fish). Medical and sanitary measures used to combat these diseases are mentioned.Keywords
