Abstract
A simplified diet of ground rice. casein, butter, salts and yeast was found to produce satisfactory lactation in rats. Additions of fresh liver, liver extract or yeast were without effect on the lactational performance. Fairly satisfactory lactation was also obtained on a similar diet in which casein was replaced by fish protein. Stock colony rats which failed to rear their 1st litters were more likely to lose their 2d litters than rats which successfully raised their 1st litters. Subcut. implantation of tablets of pig ant. pituitary into such rats just after the 2d parturition had no effect on their ability to rear their young. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
