A rapid method for the assay of ascorbic acid tablets

Abstract
A method is described for the rapid routine assay of ascorbic acid tablets by using a subtractive enthalpimetric technique. The ascorbic acid is oxidised by hexacyanoferrate(III). The effects of excipients have been studied. A comparison of the results obtained by using this method and the BP method shows that there is no significant difference in the accuracy of the two techniques. The main advantages of the proposed method are the time taken, the potential for automation of the process and the ability to carry out the assay of single dosage forms.
