Abstract
This paper provides new insight into the dynamical response of an impacting driven beam. A simple mathematical model utilising a coefficient of restitution rule captures qualitative (and limited quantitative) behaviour of an experimental apparatus allowing the parameter space to be divided into zones according to their behaviour type. Emphasis is directed towards identifying the zones which separate regular period-1 impacting solutions from irregular, apparently chaotic, impacting and non-impacting motions. Keywords
