Abstract
The successful application of the Kerr magneto-optic technique to observe magnetic domains in orthoferrite single crystals is described. A series of photographs portray domain developments in thick samples of YFeO3 and HoFeO3 similar to those previously revealed in thin, transparent sections by the Faraday effect. Quantitative measurements of the normal, polar Kerr rotation for the two orthoferrites are reported for several wavelengths, and an apparatus for making such measurements is described. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
