A re-evaluation of antibiotic sterilisation of heart valve allografts.

Abstract
Different mixtures (6) of antibiotics used for treating heart valve allografts were compared and the formulation of the medium in current use is described. The abilities of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and of fungi with low sensitivities to antifungal agents to survive treatment are also described. These abilities emphasize the need for routine microbiological screening of every valve.
