Abstract
Results are presented of a mark/recapture study of phlebotomine sand flies in a Colombian coffee plantation. Maximum recorded distance traveled by the insects was 163 m by one female Lutzomyia shannoni (Dyar), but most individuals were recovered within 100 m of the release point and within 24 h of marking. An unexpectedly high proportion of L. shannoni was found among recaptured sand flies, contrasting with an extremely low recapture rate for Lutzomyia spinicrassa Morales, Osorno, de Osorno & Munoz, a much more plentiful species in the study area. Keywords
