Abstract
SUMMARY Stereum Murraii is heterotrophic for thiamine. The pyrimidine portion of the vitamin molecule substitutes in part for thiamine. Glutamic acid is a better source of nitrogen than NH4NO3, asparagine or casein hydrolysate. Evidence is presented for a water-soluble thermostable growth factor present in natural materials including wood. Keywords
