Abstract
A particular type of abnormal morphogenesis in « Acetabularia mediterranea ». — The unicellular marine alga Acetabularia mediterranea forms at maturity a cap, in which later takes place cysts differentiation. Sometimes, however, the cell shows an abnormal morphogenesis. In the absence of a normal cap, an entire region of the stalk, at the apex of the cell, looks swollen or of spheroidal shape, especially in the anucleated cells. These atypical structures remain sterile in our cultures. The abnormal morphogenesis described here may be due to an alteration of the localization of the hydrolytical enzymes (or perhaps of the corresponding messenger RNA) at the apex of the cell.
