Abstract
Correcting previous reports, crystalline methemoglobin is easily and uniformly made by the treatment of horse oxyhemoglobin with 5% alcohol at 37-40[degree]. The conversion of methemoglobin into its fluor-derivative requires a maximum of 30 min. The absorption band lies in the red area (606 m[mu] [plus or minus] 1). Papain-HCN at pH 5 acts similarly to activated trypsin at pH 9 on blood pigment, producing a hemin-proteose. The hemoglobin in pernicious anemia is of the normal, adult type, and does not react to alkalies as does that of the newborn. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
