Abstract
This paper describes a pilot study of information giving in an oncology setting. This was achieved by randomly allocating patients to having their consultation tape-recorded or not. The results suggest that this approach increases the retention of information in patients as well as reducing their levels of anxiety. The method is cheap and easy to use, acceptable to patients and their families, and does not inhibit the consultation process. Keywords
