Hyperfine studies of a very dilute alloy by nuclear orientation: Pd54Mn

Abstract
Nuclear Orientation measurements have been made on a very dilute alloy of 5Pu4Mn in Pd. The measurements were made in applied magnetic fields from 0 to 9000 Gauss and at temperatures from 11.5 to 100 mK. Our results in low magnetic fields (?430 Gauss) are not describable by models based on a free paramagnetic Mn spin (AI↘⋅S↘ coupling, slow electronic relaxation). The data, however, can be fit with a model in which the local field axis is not always parallel to the applied field. This may arise from long range impurity interactions or relaxation/fluctuation effects. In high applied fields the data can be adequately described in terms of a hyperfine field model. We find that the magnitude of the saturation hyperfine field is (415±20)kG for Pd5Pu4Mn.
