Abstract
To the Editor: The article, "Gout Associated with Calcification of Cartilage," by Dodds and Steinbach, which appeared in the October 6 issue of the Journal, emphasizes an important association with which we agree. In fact we have been listing true gout (sodium-urate-crystal-deposition disease) as one of the metabolic conditions associated with pseudogout (articular chondrocalcinosis, or abnormal calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystal deposition1 , 2). Three of the first 80 patients with pseudogout in our series had associated gout proved by specific identification of sodium urate micro-crystals. Case 8 of our original report,3 to which Dodds and Steinbach refer, showed both sodium . . .
