Immunofluorescent staining of exoerythrocytic schizonts of simian plasmodia in fixed tissue *

Abstract
Exoerythrocytic schizonts of three simian malarias were readily identified by indirect immunofluorescence in liver biopsy material fixed in Carnoy's solution and embedded in paraffin up to 9 years previously. Freshly embedded and stored materials showed a striking similarity both in intensity of specific fluorescence and in the degree of detail revealed. Parasites of two different species were stained to an essentially equivalent extent through a hyperimmune serum prepared against the blood stages of a single, defined strain of one of the two.
