Abstract
The use of synchrotron radiation in the study of magnetism is reviewed. An overview of resonant and non-resonant magnetic scattering is given along with their relation to well known magneto-optical effects such as magnetic linear and circular dichroism, Faraday rotation, and the magneto-optical Kerr effect. The use of these effect is reviewed for ferromagnetic iron, antiferromagnetic holmium and magnetic multilayers.
