Abstract
Invasive mycoses primarily due to Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus remain an important cause of death within the hospital population. Recent developments in antifungal therapy, such as the lipid-based amphotericin B preparations, highlight the need to develop rapid diagnostic tests for these diseases. This paper summarizes developments in antibody, antigen and DNA detection.
