Abstract
Reaction of sodium metal in HMPA-THF with 2,3′-anhydrothymidine la, results in an elimination to give the 2′,3′-unsaturated nucleoside 3a, This process was utilized in a synthesis of the antiviral drug D4T from thymidine. Keywords
