Abstract
Menon et al. (Aug. 2 issue)1 make the interesting observation that animal insulin, mainly in the form of insulin-antibody complexes, can be detected in the cord serum of some infants born to mothers with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus treated with animal insulin. The authors conclude that the higher rate of macrosomia in infants of such mothers is partly due to the stimulatory effect of the transplacentally transferred insulin.1 We disagree with this conclusion. Keywords
