On Hypoxylon serpens in Culture

Abstract
Variability in ascospore release is emphasized. In some collections ascospore release is forcible and in others occurs by passive oozing. Cultural conditions also influence the mode of release. Peptone in the medium at 5 g/l inhibits forcible discharge. Cinephotomicrography has indicated that both processes may occur simultaneously.
