Abstract
These extended “notes” on ethnographic film history and theory are meant to introduce a bibliography on visual anthropology. Special sections discuss the history of visual anthropology in Italy and Poland. Not intended as a general introduction to the field, it is offered as a means to revitalize theoretical debate. Originally published in Italian in 1984 as Anthropologia Visuale, the author and editor acknowledge the cooperation and kind permission of the publisher, Gruppo Editorial Fiorentino, Firenze, Italy, and the untiring and selfless devotion of the translator, Denise Dresner. Keywords
