Abstract
The menopause is an integral part of the ageing process in women. The loss of menstrual rhythm and function in woman is secondary to the loss of ovarian ova and ovarian estrogens. Reproduction stops abruptly shortly after middle life. Reproduction in domestic animals may continue until actual old age, according to the meager data on record. The clinical problems of the climacteric are caused to a degree by estrogen deprivation. The most important aspects of the climacteric are the profound psychosomatic readjustments of the ageing woman, in which reduced estrogens may play a minor role. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
