Influence of Apholate on the Haemolymph Proteins of Adult House Flies12

Abstract
Haemolymph samples from normal and apholate-chemosterilized Musca domestica L. were subjected to acrylamide gel electrophoresis. Samples were collected at 2- to 5-day intervals to 25 days of age for males and to 28 days of age for females. Haemolymph protein patterns of apholate-fed females appeared normal at the end of the feeding period, 2 days after emergence, but by 6 days after emergence gross accumulation in 2 areas was evident. Although the large diffuse areas gradually disappeared, discernible differences existed in most female haemolymph samples at 28 days of age. Haemolymph of apholate-fed males did not show the gross protein accumulation evident in treated female haemolymph, but close examination revealed changes in intensity of some bands. Soluble protein content of male and female haemolymph also was determined at intervals to 21 days of age.
