Abstract
Photochemical reaction has been studied as a function of irradiation wavelength, irradiation time and irradiation temperature in KI: S- system through the optical absorption and ITC measurements. It has been observed that the short wavelength irradiation is responsible for the photochemical reaction whereas long wavelength irradiation has no effect at all. During photochemical reaction, one electron from S- is transferred to an anion vacancy forming either an F-centre or a FH-centre depending upon the temperature of irradiation. A model has been suggested which explains the mechanism of the photochemical reaction.
