Inhibition of Cytopathic Action of Salisbury Virus by Antiviral Agent 1758.

Abstract
An antiviral agent called "1758", and quite similar to 8450 as previously described, has been found to prevent the cytopathic action of a Salisbury virus strain H.G.P. This is best accomplished by pre-treatment of the second generation monkey kidney cells with agent 1758, removal of 1758 about 24 hours later at which time virus is added. Under these conditions, the cells are not damaged by the virus for as long as 15 to 17 days, however, during this time virus can be recovered from treated cell cultures by subculture to the usual untreated tissue culture. 1758 is of Penicillium origin; H.G.P. virus is reported of common cold origin.
