Abstract
Two species of microsporidial parasites are reported from Holopediun gibberum in a small Canadian Shield lake. Seasonal changes in prevalence of the parasites were not attributable to changes in water temperature or to changes in size distribution of hosts over the season. Seasonal changes in resistance of hosts to parasitism, related to food stress may account for the pattern in prevalence but it was more likely a consequence of host and parasite population dynamics and interplay. An examination of H.gibberum fecundity and size structure indicated that microsporidiosis reduced birth rates and may have decreased survival of Holopedium .Keywords
