Abstract
The scalar wave equation has been solved exactly for scattering by a repulsive cylindrical Gaussian potential, the phase shifts being evaluated and summed for backscatter on an IBM 7094 computer for a number of values of potential strength and range. The results are displayed in comparison with various approximations. Some implications for the interpretation of meteor-trail scattering are explored. Keywords
