Abstract
Many physiological responses of plants and microorganisms are induced only by blue (300-500 nm) and near ultraviolet (UV) light. These responses differ appreciably in their sensory transduction pathways but share a small number of photoreceptor pigments, presumably flavins bound to cell membranes.
