Abstract
We consider the problem of how to balance and or guarantee bandwidth for queued arbitrated services within the framework of the Medium Access Control layer of Me Distributed Queue Dual Bus (DQDB) M". The proposed medsi;4 which is based on CYclic REquest Control (CYREC) can provide fair sharing andlor guarantee bandwidih. The proposed scheme is based on assigning capacity to each station by selling a quota representing the number of request bits which can be queuedfor transmission per cycle by that station. Either at the end of a preassigned cycle periodor when MeHead0fRus detects that allstadons are either idle or have exhausted their quota@ a reset bit is used to start a new cycle@ during which stations may queue to send another quota of requests. In this way capacity is efficiently guarantee4 as allocations not used by temporarily idle stations may be available to others. Simulation results are presented to demon strate the improvement in DQDBperformance achieved by using CYREC.Keywords
