Abstract
Propoxyphene napsylate and placebo were each administered under double-blind conditions to 18 inpatients for heroin detoxification. The beginning dose of propoxyphene napsylate was 500 mg. Within 6 h of the initial medication dose, 11 of 18 (61.1%) patients who received placebo compared to 2 of 18 (11.1%) who received propoxyphene napsylate had an opiate withdrawal score so high that they required termination from the study and administration of known, active medication. Propoxyphene napsylate more effectively suppressed withdrawal from heroin than did placebo. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
