Abstract
This paper describes the results of iiivestigations into the various electrical characteristics under the adverse conditions of 1 0-inch porcelain suspension insulators with a semiconductinig glaze: tests were made simulatinig a heavy rain after exposure to a long period of contami, iation; performance of conitaminiated insulators was investigated assuminig that the workinlg voltage stress was as low as half of the designed value; and behavior of contaminated insulators was investigated simulating cold wet switch-on conditions. Investigation was also made into the electrical characteristics of insulators by subjecting their semiconducting glaze to heavy artificial damage simulating damages caused by power arc, gunshot, etc. Keywords
