INTERNAL FRICTION IN CONCENTRATED α - BRASSES AT kHz-FREQUENCIES

Abstract
The amplitude-independent internal friction of alpha- and beta-brasses was investigated over the range 120-300 K. A statistical model applied to the results gave a good interpretation of the observations. The temperature dependence of internal friction is shown to arise from an increase in the density of dislocations contributing to the loss as the temperature increases
