Thermal Conductivity of Mg-doped CuGeO_3: Inference to the Evolution of the Spin-Peierls Order
Abstract
The thermal conductivity is measured to estimate the mean free path of the spin excitations l_s in a series of Cu_{1-x}Mg_xGeO_3 crystal. The evolution from the short-range spin-Peierls (SP) correlation to the long-range order (LRO), observed in doped samples, is elucidated in terms of l_s. In all doped samples with SP transition, although the short-range correlation appears below \~15 K independently of x, the requirement for the LRO to be established is that l_s exceeds the length scale of the impurity distance. Keywords
