Abstract
The Kerley ad hoc model for fluids and the variational hard sphere method are used to calculate the equation of state for the inverse power potentials and the Lennard‐Jones system. Comparison of these results with the available computer simulation data enables us to assess the validity of the models considered. An extension of the Kerley model that enables to calculate quantum corrections to the equation of state for fluids from the Debye temperature of the solid is applied for hydrogen and deuterium with favorable results. Keywords
