Librational motion in sodium and lithium aluminium hydrides, studied by inelastic neutron scattering

Abstract
This paper gives an account of the observation of torsional modes of motion of the AlH 4 ion in LiAlH4 and NaAlH4 and discusses these in relation to models for barriers to rotation. These barriers appear to be higher than those observed in other systems. The first observation in an energy-loss neutron spectrum of a M—H stretching frequency is reported.
