Abstract
Using the standard harmonic functions for the elastic field in a half-space loaded symmetrically on a finite area of its plane surface, some cases of applied shear are solved by simple differentiation of solutions to problems of pressure. Examples are discussed, and some results applied to the question of the cone crack angle. Keywords
