Abstract
We describe the first experimental demonstration of dual recycling, an optical system which should improve considerably the performance of proposed laser-interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. The results were in excellent agreement with predictions: An enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio by a factor of 7 was observed. Keywords
