Abstract
In the rat pancreatic clamping producing warm ischemic times ranging from 5-90 min gives rise to changes similar to those of an hemorrhagic pancreatitis. The severity of the changes is proportional to the time of ischemia. After 1-1 1/2 h of clamping, 95% of the glandular changes are reversible, and at 2 mo. the pancreas appears normal apart from localized areas of fibrosis. The islets of Langerhans remain morphologically normal even after 90 min ischemia. Implications for pancreatic and islet cell transplantation are discussed. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
