Abstract
To the Editor: The recent article on Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IU. G.R.) by Warkany et al. raises many questions, as the authors noted. I hope the new division of Child Development in the American Academy of Pediatrics will stimulate and promote studies that will answer some of the questions. The subject has interested me for many years, and I wish to cite some examples from practice which represents IU. G.R. due to starvation or deprivation of adequate nourishment. Multiple births may produce a situation in which nourishment is inadequate for one or more infants. A developmental study of triplets was reported by myself and collaborators in theJ.A.M.W.A.in June of 1961. The triplets at birth weighed 4½, 3½, and 2 lb. At the end of 26 months the I.Q.'s were practically identical, but the weights remained relatively proportional to the birth weights. In April, 1953, a girl was bornKeywords
