Abstract
OUR PREVIOUS studies on the chemistry of palmar sweat, collected from the openings of the sweat ducts of the finger tips of normal subjects,1 indicated that both chloride2 and urea3 are more concentrated in the sweat when the sweat gland is functioning intermittently than when it is functioning continuously. This report deals with similar studies on the concentration of glucose in palmar sweat, or rather of reducing substances in the sweat, since the analytic method4 used is not specific for glucose alone. There are conflicting reports5 in the literature regarding the concentration of sugar in the sweat as well as regarding its presence or absence in the sweat in normal states and in disease. All previous studies of this type have been carried out on general body, or thermal regulating, sweat. The variations in the reports seem dependent in part on the method of collectionKeywords
