Abstract
The excitation energy and isomerization properties of the 2 1 Ag state are known for discrete linear polyenes. These properties can be extrapolated to polyenes of arbitrary chain length to give a consistent and quantitative accounting of the photoinduced absorption and thermal isomerization observed for polyacetylene films. Keywords
