Abstract
Lithium carbonate appeared to normalize the sleep pattern of depressed patients by increasing δ-wave sleep and decreasing rapid eye movement sleep. This effect is compared with that of tryptophan on sleep and consideration is given to the possible role of biogenic amines in the mediation of these changes. Keywords
