Abstract
The purpose of the study was to investigate whether intra-uterine undernutrition is associated with enamel hypoplasia of primary teeth. The material consisted of 52 ‘small-for- date’ children, 26 dysmature children and 56 normal controls. The age of the children when examined was 2–3 years. The frequency of external and internal hypoplasia (opacities) in these children was about the same in the three groups. Thus, intra-uterine undernutrition does not seem to be an important factor in the aetiology of clinically demonstrable enamel mineralisation defects of primary teeth. Keywords
