Abstract
After decrystallization with Versene (calcareous urinary and sub-maxillary gland calculi) or Veronal (uric acid and cystine urinary calculi), the organic matrix was hydrolyzed and studied by 2-dimensional chromatography (in 3 systems), spectrophotometric and microbiological techniques. The amino acid pattern was chromatographically indistinguishable in all, and quantitative microbiological data are presented for the amino acids (17) in calcareous matrix. Five sugars (glucose, galactose, mannose, rhamnose, and fucose) were found in apparently the same relative proportions in all matrix samples, except no glucose was found in uric acid stone matrix. Deoxypentose, identified by reaction with diphenylamine, was also present in all, except cystine stone matrix (not examined). Keywords
