Abstract
This paper presents an assessment of the health status of the Singaporean population by the Health Utilities Index (HUI) Mark 3 system. The HUI approach is a generic health status measure that uses a Multi-Attribute Health Status Classification (MAHSC) system. The assessment describes the health status of the population on eight aspects or dimensions of health: seeing, hearing, speaking, walking, use of hands and fingers, feelings, memory and thinking, and pain. Differences in health status among different socio-economic and demographic groups are discussed. The results of the study may help to better understand population health and health care needs and to plan health care services.
